<p>Did you know that there are over 72,000 CAs working in Canada? That’s right, and over 35,000 of them are in Ontario. They’re not all working in accounting firms like you may think. In fact, over 63% work outside of public practice, in industries such as high tech, sports, entertainment and nonprofit. 62% of the Globe and Mail’s Report on Business (ROB) Top 1000 Companies of 2009 have a CA in at least one of their six highest positions (Chair, President, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Chief Operating Officer (COO) and Corporate Secretary. They hold top positions in diverse organizations like Maple Leaf Sports &amp; Entertainment, Research in Motion, RBC and BMW Canada.</p>
<p>CAs are employed in the full spectrum of finance-related careers as well. You can acquire such jobs with you CA in a finance related field such as Investment Banking, Private Equity, Asset &amp; Wealth Management, Consulting and much more!</p>
<p>Attending these events gives students direction in completing their education and mapping out their career path. It also gives students a chance to network and meet important people in the accounting profession. The turnouts at our CA events are always large in number, and this year should be no different. RUAS recommends you take this opportunity to get one step closer to your desired career!</p>
<p>On <strong>February 1, 1 &#8211; 2:30 PM</strong>, the ICAO will be hosting a designation event in Cara Commons. Students can obtain important information about the CA designation, and the accounting profession in general. <strong>Cordie Jagt, Associate Director at the ICAO and former recruiter at PwC</strong>, will be coming to campus to answer any questions you may have about the CA process, CA Training Offices, and tips on recruiting.</p>

<h1>Board of Ambassadors</h1>
<p>They lead participants in the University Ambassador Program as they prepare to become powerful industry honchos.</p>
<h2>What is the Board of Ambassadors?</h2>
<p>The Board of Ambassadors (BoA) — Join top university students from across Ontario and be part of the &#8220;Student Council&#8221; for the University Ambassador Program (UAP). They act as an advisory and advocacy group for the CA profession. The BoA is comprised of accounting students from over 20 university campuses across Ontario. Each university has both a junior (2nd year) and senior (3rd year) representative.</p>
<h2>Who can become a BoA Rep?</h2>
<p>The BoA representative position is one that requires a high degree of professionalism and initiative.  It is a highly sought after position that often leads to references from ICAO staff and ultimately employment with a CA Training Office.  As such, all prospective Board of Ambassador representatives must meet the following requirements:</p>
<ul>
<li>Be pursuing their CA designation</li>
<li>Membership in the <strong>University Ambassadors Program</strong></li>
<li>A minimum <strong>B</strong> grade average</li>
<li>Entering second or third year of university in the Fall 2012</li>
<li><strong>Submit an Application by Package Monday January 23, 2012</strong> (Resume, Unofficial Transcript, Letter of Reference from staff or faculty member, Application form)</li>
<li>Have no prior experience (and no future job offer) with a CA Training Office</li>
</ul>
<h2>What do BoA Reps do?</h2>
<ul>
<li>Attend ICAO meetings (March 2012, August 2012, January2013, and March 2013)</li>
<li>Promote the UAP on campus</li>
<li>Promote and recruit students for the CA$H and Rule The Tube competition and Chartered For Finance Conference</li>
<li>Promote and participate in CA-related events on campus</li>
<li>Participate in Committees and focus groups</li>
</ul>

<p>The current Board of Ambassadors will select the top 3 candidates for each level, with assistance from campus clubs and faculty.  The applications for these candidates will then be passed onto the Career Information team at the ICAO who will perform interviews with each individual and ultimately select the BoA going forward.</p>
<p>Interviews and final selection of all reps is at the discretion of the ICAO Career Information team.</p>

<p>RUAS is looking for five volunteers to help out with our national conference on January 26 and 27.</p>
<p>If you would like to learn more about RUAS and participate in some of our behind-the-scenes activities, ACHIEVE is your perfect chance!</p>

<li>Networking opportunity with CMA Ontario, CGA Ontario, PwC, KPMG, Deloitte, and Ernst &amp; Young</li>

<p>On January 26 and 27, Ryerson University Accounting Society will be hosting its’ fourth annual ACHIEVE Accounting Conference and Competition in the heart of downtown Toronto, home to the largest accounting firms in Canada.</p>
<p>Last year was the first year where the conference aspect of the event was introduced. Due to its success, once again ACHIEVE will feature guest speakers, including CEOs from various companies (TBA), who will give keynote speeches regarding our main theme, “Winning in Business &amp; Life.”</p>
<p><strong>Former guest speakers include:</strong><br />
· Chris Clark, former CEO of PricewaterhouseCoopers<br />
· Ken Campbell, CEO of Wind Mobile<br />
· Vicky Au, 2010 UFE Gold Medalist, Deloitte</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p><strong>This years guest speakers include:</strong><br />
· Glenn Ives, Chairman of Deloitte<br />
· Amie Lear, Consultant at Densmore Consulting Services Inc.<br />
· Serge Gattesco, National Partner of the Audit and Assurance Group at PwC</p>
<p>1st place winners of the competition will receive a grand prize of $1500.00 presented by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario, personalized name on the ACHIEVE trophy, and bragging rights as one of Canada’s top accounting students!</p>
<p>If either you or your school are interested in participating, please remember these pertinent facts:</p>
<p>· Schools may send up to two teams, consisting of four delegates (third and/or fourth year accounting majors with an exception of one second year student)<br />
· Registration forms and fee(s) are due by January 20, 2012<br />
· Registration fee of $500.00 (per team) includes meals, two-night stay at the Marriott Toronto Hotel, and all events (See Early-Bird payment details within Delegate Package, early bird price is $450 due on Friday January 13, 2012)<br />
