Ryerson Team A Ranks 2nd in ICAO CA$H Cup

CA$H is where your skills to rule the world as a CA are on display. The challenge not only tests your smarts, but your “soft skills” too — team-building qualities like communication, negotiation, abstract thinking, and time-management.

CA$H 2012 was held at the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario. Fourty one teams participated in this soft skills competition learning that building relationships and networking are essential skills to develop within the world of Business. Ryerson University, represented by Jedidiah Andres, Olivia Giammarioli and David Luque, won $1,500.

RUAS Congratulates all our representatives for a job well done !

Did you know that there are over 72,000 CAs working in Canada? That’s right, and over 35,000 of them are in Ontario. They’re not all working in accounting firms like you may think. In fact, over 63% work outside of public practice, in industries such as high tech, sports, entertainment and nonprofit. 62% of the Globe and Mail’s Report on Business (ROB) Top 1000 Companies of 2009 have a CA in at least one of their six highest positions (Chair, President, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Chief Operating Officer (COO) and Corporate Secretary. They hold top positions in diverse organizations like Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment, Research in Motion, RBC and BMW Canada.

CAs are employed in the full spectrum of finance-related careers as well. You can acquire such jobs with you CA in a finance related field such as Investment Banking, Private Equity, Asset & Wealth Management, Consulting and much more!

Attending these events gives students direction in completing their education and mapping out their career path. It also gives students a chance to network and meet important people in the accounting profession. The turnouts at our CA events are always large in number, and this year should be no different. RUAS recommends you take this opportunity to get one step closer to your desired career!

On February 1, 1 – 2:30 PM, the ICAO will be hosting a designation event in Cara Commons. Students can obtain important information about the CA designation, and the accounting profession in general. Cordie Jagt, Associate Director at the ICAO and former recruiter at PwC, will be coming to campus to answer any questions you may have about the CA process, CA Training Offices, and tips on recruiting.

Food and beverage will be provided.
