Aaron Goldstein
Meet Aaron Goldstein. Aaron joined Soberman LLP in 2010 and quickly earned his ‘Soberman’ stripes. Aaron is a very enthusiastic and warm individual and when meeting him, you can’t help but notice how infectious his energy is. A career in public accounting could not be more perfect for this extrovert, who enjoys meeting new people. A Wilfred Laurier University alumnus, Aaron graduated with an honours bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and is currently a UFE Finalist. Today, as a staff accountant in the firm’s Assurance & Advisory Group, Aaron advises clients from a wide range of sectors including real estate, privately-held businesses, manufacturing, wholesale and distribution, not-for-profit organizations, and investment companies. His many day-to-day responsibilities include verifying that audit and review engagement processes are compliant with industry standards like GAAP and GAAS as well as firm policy. Aaron also prepares corporate, personal, trust, and partnership tax returns. Being exposed to diverse work experiences and fields allows Aaron to continuously learn new things. “The learning never stops; even when you’re out of the ‘classroom,’ you are still being challenged and learning every day. This is what first attracted me to a career in accounting – the opportunity to keep growing as a person.” Our in-house optimist who doesn’t shrink at mounting workloads is also involved in a number of firm extra-curricular activities. Aaron is one of his floor’s social coordinators. He organizes fun and engaging events for his colleagues that are centered on teambuilding. Aaron also plays on the firm’s floor-hockey and baseball teams and is a member of the recruiting team. INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT AARON: What are you personally most proud of? Preparing for and passing the Chartered Accountancy qualifying exams was my most rewarding accomplishment. I found that setting small achievable goals throughout the study process kept me motivated and on-track, which is very important as the exams are written during the summer months. How do you spend May 1? Catching up on sleep Hobbies: Outside of the office, I enjoy going to the movies, travelling, playing recreational sports like hockey, basketball and golf. I also try to spend time catching up with family and friends. |

Jingchan Hu
Just call her ‘Jin’, all her friends do. Also known as Jingchan Hu, Jin is a manager in the firm’s Taxation Group. She joined Soberman in 2010 as a tax specialist and has since made great strides in her career. Coming from a regional accounting firm based in Guelph, where she worked for two years, Jin is excited by the opportunities that a larger firm and the big city have to offer! To date, Jin has enjoyed the exposure to a wide variety of industries and engagements. Jin serves clients in sectors including investment companies, privately-held businesses, professionals, and real estate and construction. In her current role, Jin is engaged in all areas of the tax practice, including personal, corporate, and trust tax matters. She is knowledgeable in corporate and personal tax compliance and planning. Jin is thankful for her education and credits hard work and countless hours spent studying to her success today. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Financial Management and a master’s degree in Accounting – both she attained at the University of Waterloo. In fact, Jin was first inspired to become an accountant in the classroom. “In my grade 11 accounting class, a CA came and spoke about the profession. By the end of his presentation, I recognized the opportunities and decided then that I wanted to be a CA.” Like many of her colleagues, Jin enjoys participating in various community initiatives. Jin regularly counsels a young group of women; advising them on how to organize and participate in philanthropic and charity events. Jin sits on the board and is the Treasurer at Silent Voice Canada. Jin is also a committee member of the Toronto Midtown Business Association, an organization in which Soberman is a founding member.
